LABOR WARS: SWANNING AROUND WITH THE MODS – WHO’LL GET THE BILL?

Congratulations to Wayne Swan, who has been boosted to chair of CBUS after a torrid tussle against Tim Harcourt, the ‘airport economist’ and former Labor advisor.

Swan was elevated with the support of his unions, the AWU, and Plumbers Union head Earl Setches and CFMEU construction division consigliere Dave Noonan. That means only one thing of course – the bizarre Mods – Industrial Left alliance is back in action! Remember the Mods? They were the bizarre self-invented faction of SDA defector Adem Somyurek, based on suburban branches, and quickly gaining support of right-wing unions hitherto attached to the ‘Shortcon’ faction.

The Mods became Centre Unity, and then did an alliance with the CFMEU and other leftwing unions who’d jumped out of the Socialist Left faction. The alliance fell apart after Somyurek was defenestrated. Now they seem to have recomposed themselves.

If they’re working with the AWU, it only means one thing: Bill Shorten’s on the march again, getting into position for Albo to get the elbow.
